How it all started...
- A Unique Approach: Cowboy churches minimize traditional church barriers, such as formal dress codes or elaborate buildings, in favor of a relaxed environment that emphasizes relationships and a shared culture. They often meet in barns, arenas, or exposition centers.
- Rapid Expansion: The approach proved successful. Today, there are an estimated 5,000 cowboy churches across the United States.
- The modern cowboy church movement began in 1972 when former professional rodeo clown Glenn Smith started ministering to people on the bull riding and rodeo circuits, using the western lifestyle as a way to share Christian beliefs.
